The casino chips are used in the benefit of both sides: the casino on one hand and the player on the other. The security, easy handling and easy counting represent the major advantages that chips have over real money use in casinos.
The use of casino tokens prevents thefts and counterfeiting that employees or clients might be tempted to try. The chips are made in different colors but with the same size and weight, each color representing another value. This way the chips can be counted easier and few chips can replace large amounts of money that would be hard to maneuver and count each time a player places a bet. The chips are used only for a century or so, before them the gamblers using all kinds of objects to place bets. The first chips were made of clay but now the casino tokens are ceramic. The chips are now included in gambling sets used to play different casino games at home. In most gambling sets the chips are made out of plastic. The small casino tokens are so special that many individuals started to collect them. This gambling related hobby emerged recently, but the gambling industry has a great potential towards this activity. There are famous casinos and special casino chips, making this hobby a very expensive one. Unfortunately many casinos in search of lower costs and higher profitability want to eliminate the chips by replacing them with paper receipts or pre-paid cards. This way they can replace the cashiers with automatic machines. From gamblers perspective, if the casino chips would disappear the gambling will lose some of the fun. |
