Gambling superstitionsSuperstition is in the nature of human being since the beginning of humanity. Some people manage to retain it and some people tend to exaggerate it. Since gambling appeared superstition became an inseparable part of it. Gamblers usually consider that their good luck or bad luck is influenced by different situations or events. The powerful the superstition gets in someone’s mind the stronger will be the effect on his behavior.

Apparently gamblers are the most superstitious people in the world and most of them will do anything to increase their chance of winning. The superstition can manifest in small stuffs like carrying a lucky charm or can become even a ritual performed before or during the gambling sessions.

In time many psychologists started to perform studies on this subject and most of them concluded that those false beliefs have negative effect on players and make them to swing mood, withdrawal or lose important amounts of money.  On a survey 80% of the gamblers who responded said that they believed in superstitions or carried out some sort of lucky ritual while gambling.

In another survey gamblers who were in a winning trend strongly believe they will continue to win and when they had a losing trend they continue gamble believing that is a stronger possibility to start winning.

Many gamblers can develop superstitions that might become regular behavior for future gambling sessions. Gamblers can make their own set of superstitious beliefs or share a common set of beliefs that many gamblers adopted.

Some of the common superstitions considered by many to bring good luck include:

- Carrying a personal lucky charm (four leaf clover, horseshoe, rabbit's foot, or a personal item);
- Wearing a lucky item of clothing;
- Blowing on the dice before rolling them;
- Being well dressed;
- Crossing one's fingers;
- Stacking the gambling chips neatly;
- The color red.

On the other hand some of the superstitions which most people believe to bring bad luck are:

- A black cat crossing one's path;
- Dogs near a gambling table;
- Walking under a ladder;
- Breaking a mirror;
- The color black;
- Counting your money while you are playing;
- Crossing your legs while playing.

As long as the gambler doesn’t let his superstitions to take control of his behavior, believing in something that will bring good luck can actually be good. As long as the player feels lucky he will enjoy more playing.
