How to get into a main event

How to get into a main eventAll poker players dream about entering a main event of a major poker tournament. Few years ago this was just a beautiful dream for many poker lovers but these days is closer than ever to become a real thing. Many poker sites and poker rooms run qualifying tournaments for major poker competitions and these are the cheapest way to get to the final table in international tournaments.

The major poker tournaments include World Series of Poker, World Series of Poker Europe, World Poker Tour, European Poker Tour, Latin American Poker Tour,  Asia Pacific Poker Tour and Australian Poker Championship. The buy-in for these tournaments are the highest, reaching up to $10,000 or even more.

Besides the high entrance fee, those tournaments also attract a large number of exceptional players, making the goal of participating to the final table difficult to reach. Good poker skills, a lot of experience and some luck are absolutely necessary for advancing to the main event.

The most important part for major tournaments is what you do before the actual competition and how do you get there. Although a buy-in of $10,000 ensures your entrance to the tournament this is recommendable only for professional players that already have a lot of experience and large bankrolls.

For amateurs the best advice is to work your way to the tournament as you accumulate more experience and save a lot of money. So many poker rooms and poker sites offer prize packages for main tournaments that would be a shame not to use them. Most times the prize packages consist in entrance fees, and extra money for accommodation and traveling expenses.

In the recent years several main event players from major tournaments qualified through these satellites run by different poker rooms so the fame and glory are closer than ever thanks to the online poker opportunities.
