Re-buy and add-on tournaments

Re-buy and add-on tournamentsAs you already know in poker you can find different types of tournaments: guaranteed, regular, sit and go, steps, satellites and so on. Although these tournaments are different they can have similar features like re-buy and add-on.

Re-buy as you probably guessed, gives to a player the chance to get back in the tournament. Usually the re-buy is equal to the buy-in of the tournament and after re-buy you get the initial stack of chips.
Add-on allows a player to increase his stack of chips during the tournament. The add-on cost is the same as the buy-in and in most cases the stack of add-on chips is bigger than on re-buy. In some tournaments add-on is accepted only if you have fewer chips than the initial stack.

Re-buys are allowed only for a period of time like the first levels of the tournament but can be unlimited. In most tournaments, after the re-buy period is over add-on is permitted.

Titan Poker offers many re-buy tournaments from which we’ll analyze a $1500 GP Rebuy. The buy-in is $1.00 + $0.10 and the prize pool is $1,500 guaranteed in the next payout structure: 1st place $750, 2nd place $450, 3rd place $300. The minimum number of players is 10 and maximum is 1,500 playing in ten player tables. The amount of starting chips is 1,500. Every re-buy gives you 1500 chips and add-on 2000 chips. Re-buy is possible if you have less than or equal to 1500 chips. Re-buy and add-on cost $1 and while re-buy is unlimited, the add-on is available only in the first break.

PKR Gold Rush Speed Rebuy $4,000 GTD is a guaranteed tournament with a six player table’s structure accepting maximum 2000 players. Buy-in is $2.00 + $0.10, giving you 1000 starting chips. 2000 chips re-buys are unlimited for the first 12 levels and allowed with stacks at 2000 or less. You can receive an optional 5000 chips add-on at the end of level 12. The payout structure depends of the number of registered players. For example payout structure for a prize pool of $4,156 with 452 runners starts at $956.20 for 1st place and goes down to $14.54 on rank 66.

Poker Stars offers various tournaments with re-buy. $11+R NL Hold’em [$50,000 guaranteed] is just an example of this type of tournament. The number of players must be at least 29 and maximum 6,000, players paying a buy-in of $10.00 + $1.00. Unlimited re-buys (1500 chips for $10.00) are available until the first break but players must have 1500 chips or less to be able to re-buy. One add-on of 3000 chips for $10.00 is available during the first break. The guaranteed prize pool is $50,000 and the payout structure start with $12,262.39 for 1st place and goes down to $54.32 for 360th player ranked for less than 5,000 registered players.
