The sit and go tournaments are similar to multi-table tournament’s final table. The differences between those two are that in SNG all players begin with the same chips stack and betting starts with lower blinds. Entering at the table with the same stack of chips, all players have the same chance of winning. Playing sit and go tournaments it’s also different from playing at ring tables. The strategy is more aggressive, every one trying to win more chips in order to finish on the top prize money places. Another feature of SNG is that you cannot sit down, play and leave whenever you want. If you lose your chips you are out of the game unless is a re-buy tournament. Re-buy means that after you lose you can take back your place in the tournament by paying again your seat. This gives you a second chance to win the tournament. Online poker rooms offer a wide range of sit and go tournaments. PKR for example offers regular, phase, speed, heads-up and multi-table sit and go tournaments. The numbers of players in sit and go tournaments may be two, six, nine, ten, twelve, twenty or more. Some multi-table sit and go tournaments are scheduled and start even if the number of players is not fully reached. In that case the prize pool distributed to the top players depends on the number of participants. Playing at sit and go tournaments can be a good practice for bigger tournaments and helps you to improve your skills and get comfortable playing final tables. Because all players pay for their place in tournament and the buy-in starts from $1, sit and go’s are accessible for all kind of players. Therefore you can learn how to play against rock, fish, shark and other types of players. Starting with ten players at the table and ending heads-up you will experience different situations. Fast played hands will start to eliminate players and the fewer remain the harder will be to finish among the winners. In higher entry fee games you’ll find better players so it’s recommended to start with low stakes and learn your way up to the big money games. |

Sit and go tournaments (referred as SNG) started as a single table tournament (STT) with nine or ten players. When all the places were taken completing the requested number of players, the chips were distributed and the game started. So the name is very representative, players sitting at the table and as soon as the table is completed they start playing.
