The first card games resembling poker recorded were an Egyptian game in the 12th century and the “As Nas” Persian game from around 16th century. Different versions of poker were played throughout 17th and 18th century in Germany and France, but both of them were based on a 16th century Spanish game named Primero which some consider to be the predecessor of the modern poker game. In the 18th century French workers that went to Canada and then immigrated to New Orleans brought the game to United States where two centuries later will become famous. By the 1925 the game suffered several changes to the deck of cards and additions to the rules, eventually reaching the modern form. When the World Series of Poker started back in 1970, the best times of poker were just starting. The game that was commonly played in American casinos started to attract more and more fans in United States. Around the year 2000, poker started to gain popularity in Europe and due to the appearance of the online poker rooms, poker is now the most popular card game in the world. Currently some of the most famous online poker rooms include PKR, Titan Poker and Poker Stars, which is the largest online poker community. |

Although now, poker is one of the most popular games in the world, the things were not always this bright. The matter of fact nobody knows for sure how appeared and from where the game really originates. There are several theories about that matter but one thing is common in all: the poker game is older than five centuries.
