World Championship of Online Poker 2009

World Championship of Online Poker 2009The final countdown for the World Championship of Online Poker 2009 (WCOOP) started. The first 2009 event of WCOOP is the $215 No Limit Hold’em 6-Max scheduled for September 3rd. This year’s edition will have the biggest prize pool ever: over $40 million guaranteed prize pool. The most important event is the two day 45th event: No Limit Hold’em Main Event that will take place on 20 and 21 September and will have a $10,000,000 prize pool.

The World Championship of Online Poker is managed by Poker Stars. WCOOP 2002 was the first tournament and had only nine events and a prize pool of over $730,000 in combined prizes.

The 2008 WCOOP had 33 events and total prize money awarded of $39,958,000 competing with World Series of Poker. The winner of the 2008 series was "ckingusc", who won a $1,265,432 prize. This year’s tournament will be even greater, the biggest and richest poker tournament series anywhere. This year tens of thousands of players will compete in 45 events played in 18 days for millions of dollars prize money.

If you want to play in the tournament you have two options: to buy your seat at the event paying from $109 up to $10,300 (the main event buy-in) or to qualify through Poker Stars Satellites or Steps Satellites. The all time summary of WCOOP include 121 events played, 162,232 buy-ins, 49,029 unique players representing 136 countries and $105,202,250 Total Prize Money.
