Omaha strategies for beginners

Omaha is a well known poker game. It has been steadily growing in the recent past. As we know, every poker game requires a well planned strategy to master it; same is the case with Omaha. Omaha is derived from world famous Series of Poker, Texas Hold'em. Hold’em is the most famous poker game which is in great demand in live casinos and online at PokerStars. The basic difference between the two is the number of ‘hole cards’. The strategy for Omaha is entirely different from Hold’em because the number of hole cards in former is four but in Hold’em, there are two hole cards. Now first of all, every player should primarily aim to shoot for the Nut straight, nut flush, or nut full house most of the time. ’Nut’ can be described as a hand that can only be beaten by hidden quads and straight flushes. In short, the first strategy states to play only for Nuts.

So the strategy will start from the starting hand itself. There can many different starting hand combinations but you have to choose the appropriate one. You can choose any hand containing a pair of Aces. A starting hand with a pair of Aces is a terrific starting hand. Any full house that may be derived from this holding containing two Aces would also be among the highest possible full houses. Moreover if you can make a nut flush or a straight, it will be among the highest possible straights. This opening hand strategy is very helpful and can change the entire game.

Secondly, while a high pair with only an over card might be a good flop in Texas Holdem, it is not the same in Omaha. Here we need two pairs or a set, or an even better combination. Always keep this thing in mind: you should not raise before the flop if you don’t have at least Aces or Kings. If you have a strong hand on the dealer position and nobody raised, it is another good time to raise. Always avoid letting the blinds see the flop cheap.

Every player thinks that their two-pair is a great hand. The best strategy is to play hands that do well in multi-way pots and bet hard when you have the nuts. But this strategy is used only where the play tends to be loose and passive mostly in Omaha –low limit. You must also study your opponents. When you already folded, you should still pay attention at the table, and get to know your opponents better. There are certain things that you should observe like: do they usually fold, or they try to see the flop with most of their hands? You can also easily notice if they try to bluff too often. These things will really help in implementing the above mentioned strategies properly.
