The first recordings of this type of game date from the beginning of 14th century, when an early form of cricket named “creag” was played by Price Edward, the son of Edward I. For centuries this game survived as a game of children and in late 16th century adults started to play it.

The oldest reference to the name “creckett” dates back from late 16th century but the origin of the game’s name is still on debate due to the lack of compelling evidence. Several recording from the 17th century make reference to cricket saying the sport was played widely in the south-east of England.
